Summary:
This class covers the implementation of ITSM 5.2 through both lecture and hands-on exercises. Server and client components are covered in full. Server installation, data base tailoring and designing and the storage pool architecture are covered as well as tape robotics. ITSM objects covered include the Data Base, the Log, the Storage Pools, the Device Classes and the Libraries and the Volumes. Client setup options include the framework, the functional capabilities and both manual/automated operation. The facilities include: backup, restore, archive, retrieve, selection criteria, web client and client option sets. Service level support is discussed along with the best practices within the context of infrastructure constraints. Objects discussed include: Policy Domains, Policy Sets, Management classes and Copy groups. Client schedules and administrative schedules are discussed with an emphasis on client automation. Daily scheduled activities and the daily routine are examined. ITSM objects discussed: schedules, server scripts, macros and associations. Logs, monitoring and reporting facilities are reviewed including centralized logging. Procedures to protect the ITSM server including the recommended best practices are covered. Movement and management of off-site pools as well as steps to server recovery are covered as a base understanding for disaster recovery.
